Monkspath: Medieval Routes, Reclaimed Land, and, Living Nature

This self-guided walk traces Monkspath from its first recorded mention in 1153, through the vanished hamlet of Shelly and the Georgian drama of Monkspath Hall, to the reclaimed landscapes and local nature reserve of today. The route also explores how Hillfield Park and the adjacent reserve function as modern habitats of woodland, lake, grassland and scrub, and how the Armed Forces Community Garden adds a recent layer of healing, cultivation and remembrance to a landscape shaped for centuries by human use.
